What to Expect When You Move a loved one into memory care
The first 48 hours after moving a loved one into memory care are often the hardest for the family. You may feel a heavy sense of guilt or worry that they won’t settle in. At Assisted Living on Broadway, we use a specific “Soft Landing” protocol to ensure these first two days succeed.
The First 24 Hours: Observation & Bonding Instead of leaving a new resident alone in their room to “adjust,” we bring them into the heart of the home immediately. Because of our 1:6 ratio, we assign a dedicated staff member to shadow your loved one. We learn their favorite chair, how they take their coffee, and the non-verbal cues they use when they feel tired or thirsty.
The Second 24 Hours: Clinical Oversight Iren, our RN owner, personally monitors all new transitions. We watch closely for changes in hydration, sleep patterns, and medication effectiveness. Moving a loved one into memory care can physically stress the body; however, direct nurse oversight allows us to manage any “move-in jitters” professionally and gently.

For the Family: The “Deep Breath” Update We know you wait by the phone. We provide frequent updates during this window so you see photos or hear stories of their interactions. Our goal is for you to finally take that deep breath, knowing you didn’t just “place” them, but that they have truly found a home.
